Reef 2 Reef is a Coral Restoration Program initiated by the Maritime University of Panama and SCUBAPANAMA.
Their coral Nurseries are situated in Portobelo, Colon in Panama.
Staghorn (Acropora cervicornis) is a reef-building hard coral that was previously dominant in the Caribbean. In 2006, this species was listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Staghorn provide critical structural complexity on the reef, and vital habitat for marine life.
Reef 2 Reef fragments corals into smaller pieces. These smaller fragments are then hung on a PVC structure, that allow the Corals to grow in nurseries. After a certain Size, the fragments are transferred to an alternate location, so they can grow and develop.
By contracting Commercial Diving Panama, you contribute to this very important cause. We work closely with the Maritime University, providing structures and materials, as well as being part of the maintenance of corals on a regular basis. Reef2Reef is assuring a future for corals in Panama.
